Tutoring Resources at North Central

Tutoring Resources are free to all 汤头条app students for 汤头条app classes. The Learning Lab (SCRC 533) is the home of the Math and Writing labs. Drop in or make appointments in Starfish Services.

Writing Lab

The Writing Lab is a great first stop for any type of writing assistance. All services are free and available on a walk-in basis, but advance appointments are highly recommended (especially during college crunch times).

Meet with us for assistance with... 

  • Idea selection and development
  • Essay flow and organization
  • Effective discussion board posts
  • Coaching in grammar and punctuation
  • APA and MLA formatting
  • Essays, Speeches, Discussion Board Posts, Scripts, Proposals, Reports, Etc.

Reading support is available in the Writing Lab on Mondays and Thursdays only. Our Reading and Writing Tutor will support you in college-level reading skills, such as thinking critically about reading and pulling important information from complex texts. North Central students find the Reading Lab helpful in any North Central course that requires reading.

In-person writing and reading tutoring is available by walk-in or appointment.

Math Lab

The Math lab is located in the Learning Lab on the Petoskey campus, Student Community Resource Center, in room 533. The lab includes a study area and tutoring to assist students who may need additional math support. Computers in the math lab are equipped with the current North Central math curriculum software and are available during the tutoring and testing center office hours. 

In-person math tutoring is available by walk-in up to Math 140. Higher level math by Appointment Only.

Net Tutor庐 (Online 24/7)

NetTutor offers live tutoring on-demand, question drop-off, and writing feedback. Tutors are subject matter experts trained in how to translate tutoring best practices and learning strategies to support students online. Connecting with a tutor is fast and easy, with no downloads necessary and a service that doesn鈥檛 require ample bandwidth. All tutoring takes place on an intuitive whiteboard interface and is facilitated with course specific tools and functions.

Peer Tutoring

Tutoring is available to 汤头条app students on a peer-to-peer basis, group tutoring, and study skills support tutoring. Peer tutors have successfully completed the course they are tutoring with a B+ or above, and maintain a 3.0 GPA or above, and/or have been recommended by an instructor for a specific class.

Steps to Request a Peer Tutor:

  1. Read & Sign the requirements to receive tutoring services (available in the Testing and Tutoring Center or )
  2. Complete an availability schedule
  3. Tutor Coordinator will contact you when a peer tutor is identified

When a Tutor is Assigned:

  1. Attend the class (it is a requirement)
  2. Meet with the tutor at designated time/day every week for 1 hour
  3. Be prepared with questions/issues to ask the tutor, bring your books, notes & class syllabus
  4. Participate, ask questions, & listen
